What are the T3 tutoring goals?

  • to promote independence in learning
  • to personalize instruction
  • to facilitate tutee insights into learning and learning processes
  • to provide a student perspective on learning and school success
  • to respect individual differences

What is the format of the tutoring sessions? (See Program Information for further details.)

  • Individual, one-on-one tutoring appointments are 55-minute sessions.
  • Two-hour sessions are available for grades 7–college level , if appropriate.
  • Time is allotted at the end of each session for tutee-tutor goal-setting for future sessions and the tutor’s completion of Tutor Diaries and Appointment Confirmation Forms.

Who is doing the work, tutor or tutee?

Tutors do not do the tutees’ work for them but rather help students in ways that enable them to better help themselves and reduce their need for academic assistance. The focus is on learning how to learn the material in order to create independent learners.


What subjects are tutored?

  • Computer Skills
  • Math

  • Chemistry
  • Physics
  • Other subjects if tutors are available


What is the cost? (See Program Information for details.)

  • One-on-one tutoring is $21 per hour. A minimum of 8 sessions is required equaling $168.

Why are 8 hours set as the minimum number of tutoring sessions?

In order to accomplish the academic goal established by the student and T3 tutor, enough time needs to be scheduled. Fewer than 8 hours would not be a realistic timeframe.

How long are the tutoring sessions?

  • Tutoring sessions are held for 55 minutes.
  • Two-hour sessions are available for grades 7-college level, if appropriate.
  • Time is allotted at the end of each session for tutee-tutor goal-setting for future sessions and the tutor's completion of Tutor Diaries and the T3 Appointment Confirmation Forms.

What qualifications do the T3 tutors have to meet?

All T3 tutors are highly qualified for the grade levels and academic subjects for which they tutor. Each has completed the Tutor Training—Level 1 course at SWC or had equivalent training, as well as a minimum of two years tutoring experience. Many hold B.A. or B.S. degrees, or higher. Some have teaching experience.


If all hours purchased are not used, are refunds available?

Yes, except for unexcused absences or dismissal due to inappropriate conduct. Processing of refunds will take approximately four weeks.

Where does T3 tutoring take place?

Tutors meet with their tutees in the Southwestern College Academic Success Center, Building 420.

What does the student need to bring to each T3 session?

  • A folder for the student’s T3 work
  • Sample school assignments, papers, and worksheets for the subject tutored
  • School text when possible
  • Pencil or pen
