Spring 2009 CRTA To Award Three $1,500 Scholarships
Eligible SWC students may apply for one of three $1,500 scholarship from the California Retired Teachers Association. The scholarship is open to students who will transfer in Fall 2009, have a 3.0 or better GPA, and have a clear desire to become a teacher, primarily in K-12 grades. BOTH applications must be completed and submitted to Financial Aid by March 6, 2009.
SWC Student Employment: Tutor Positions
SWC students with work study grants may qualify for tutoring positions throughout the area. These positions are open to students who are enrolled in a minimum of 6 units and are receiving financial aid. Click here for a list of open tutor positions. Students can receive up to $4,000 a year for undergraduate and post-baccalaureate study and up to $8,000 for graduate study. In return, students must teach in a high need field (math, science, foreign language, bilingual education, special education, etc) or at school (public or private) that serves low income students for 4 years within 8 calendar years. If they donít meet these conditions, the grant will be treated as a Stafford Loan. Click here for more information.
Troops to Teachers is a federal program funded by the Department of Education and administered by the Department of Defense through the Defense Activity for Non-traditional Education Support (DANTES). The program provides a link between current and prior armed service members who desire to pursue a career in education by providing counseling, financial and placement assistance.
