LIPP Foundation Academic Excellence Scholarship

Rania Dubois

Physics major Rania Dubois received the LIPP Foundation Academic Excellence Scholarship in Astronomy and Physics in 2007.

Rania graduated from Southwestern College Spring 2007 and transferred to UCSD. She has learned that passion for physics alone isn’t enough - hard work and dedication have helped her maintain a 4.0 GPA. Her dream is to go to graduate school and teach at a university.

Viridiana Martino

Civil Engineering major Viridiana Martino received the LIPP Foundation Academic Excellence Scholarship in Engineering in 2007.

Viridiana graduated from Southwestern College Spring 2007 and transferred to USC. She traveled to China Summer 2007 as part of a select group of engineering students from all over the country to participate in the International Scholar Laureate Program.

Axa Negron-Schnorr

Cognitive Science and Mathematics major Axa Negron-Schnorr received the LIPP Foundation Academic Excellence Scholarship in Math Endurance in 2007.

Axa transferred to UCSD Spring 2008, and is the first in her family to go to college. She plans to teach mathematics at the middle or high school level, where she will encourage students to continue their education and not be afraid of math and science.

Chao Tan

Mathematics and Economics major Chao Tan received the LIPP Foundation Academic Excellence Scholarship in Mathematics and Computer Science in 2007.

Chao graduated from Southwestern College Spring 2007 and transferred to UCSD. She overcame many obstacles to return to school, and values the opportunity to continue her education.

Garden of Giving Academic Excellence Scholarship

Bryan Quitasol

Mathematics major Bryan Quitasol received the Garden of Giving Academic Excellence Joseph Conte Mathematics and Computer Science Scholarship in 2007.

Bryan graduated from Southwestern College Spring 2007 and transfered to UCSD. He received the USAA National Collegiate Mathematics Award, and facilitated Academic Excellence Workshops for the MESA Program. His goal is to become a professor of mathematics and economics, or to work for an economic think tank.

 

LIPP Foundation Summer Research Internship

Toby Melvin

Computer Engineering major Toby Melvin interned Summer 2006 at Space and Naval Warfare System (SPAWAR), where he installated and tested networking equipment for the Navy.

Toby graduated from Southwestern College Spring 2006 and transferred to SDSU.

Jose Serrato

Civil Engineering major José Serrato interned Summer 2006 at Space and Naval Warfare System (SPAWAR). He learned about antenna range testing and assisted in the development of test plans and procedures.

José transferred to SDSU Fall 2006.

Joei Stevens

Computer Science major Joei Stevens interned Summer 2006 at Space and Naval Warfare System (SPAWAR), where he developed a dynamic link library.

Joei transfered to SDSU Fall 2008.
