Garden of Giving Endowment
Mathematics major Bryan Quitasol received a Garden of Giving Academic Excellence Joseph Conte Mathematics and Computer Science Scholarship.
The Garden of Giving Endowment was created in partnership with the School of Mathematics, Science and Engineering, the Horticulture Department, and the SWC Foundation. The endowment awards scholarships each year to MSE students with the goal of increasing the number of students who pursue and finish careers in math and science.
The “Garden of Giving” itself is a nature trail that winds its way through the walkways of the Southwestern College Campus. Unique trees and shrubs along the trail have been selected to receive identification in the form of an elegant bronze plaque. With a donation of $1,000, individuals can personalize the plaque of one of the trees or shrubs along the walkway in recognition of friends or family.
Income generated from the sale of the plaques is placed in a special fund and the interest generated is used for the scholarships. The garden also serves as an educational tool for biology, landscape architecture, and nursery technology students.
