Literature

Literature is not exhaustible, for the sufficient and simple reason that a single book is not. A book is not an isolated entity: it is a narration, an axis of innumerable narrations. One literature differs from another, either before or after it, not so much because of the text as for the manner in which it is read.
– Jorge Luis Borges

The Southwestern College Literature Program focuses on understanding human experience through diverse voices. As such, course offerings are varied and diverse, spanning the traditional canon as well as less traditional areas of study, and the critical approaches taught reflect these differences. The program prepares students to enter into university-level discourse on literary issues by introducing them to a myriad of texts and critical theories, and by challenging them to step outside of their own worlds and into the inexhaustible world that literature presents.
