Summer Sand Volleyball
Southwestern’s College Head Volleyball Coach Angela Rock, a former sand volleyball professionalplayer and coach, is now coaching a Summer sand volleyball class at the Crown Cove Aquatic Center located on the Coronado Strand in San Diego. The class has over 40 students and many of the players are from the indoor volleyball team who are learning the sand volleyball game.
In her spare time during the summer months, Coach Rock trains two professional volleyball teams on the International FIVB Beach Volleyball Tour. Nicole Branagh (2008 Olympian), Tyra Turner, Brooke Hanson and Lauren Fendrick have all hired coach Rock to coach them. These teams train mainly in Hermosa Beach and Mission Beach in San Diego.
About Sand Volleyball
Sand volleyball is an emerging sport for women in the NCAA and Southwestern College wants to help those aspiring athletes get prepared by having Coach Rock train them in the sand and on the court.
No other coach has the experience that Coach Rock can offer - as a coach and player. With 14 years playing on the professional sand volleyball tour, plus her indoor experience from being a Hall of Fame member at San Diego State to a key member of the 1988 Olympic team that went to Seoul Korea, her silver medal in the sand volleyball Olympic Exhibition Year in Almeria Spain and coaching the team of Nancy Reno and Holly McPeak at the Olympic games in Atlanta in 1996, have given her a coaching background that is unmatched.
If you have any interest in learning the sand game or getting more indoor experience so you can play on at a four year university, Coach Rock and the program at Southwestern Community College is where you need to be.
