Compton - 9/27/08

OVERALL PLAYER OF THE GAME:  GEORGE BELL (San Diego HS) George had one of the best games as a receiver in the history of SOUTHWESTERN COLLEGE.  His 10 receptions for 262 yards and 3 TD’s ended up being the number 2 all time record for yards in a game.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE GAME:  DAVID McGUIRE (Castle Park HS) David stepped up for his first start of the season as a Rover in our Nickle Defense.  He had 8 solo tackles and 5 assists as well as an interception.  He was the key to our success in stopping the run game.

SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE GAME:  DAVID FERRIS (Bonita Vista HS) David made one of the key plays of the game when he blocked a Compton punt in the first half.  The ball bounced straight up and to Ferris on one hop.  He then carried a Compton player (one his back) 6 yards into the end zone for a score.  An obvious holding penalty that wasn’t called.

THE BIG STICK:  ALEX MORALES (Helix HS) On the return of DAVID McGUIRE’s interception, ALEX had a “comeback” block blasting one of the Compton players into two of our own players.
