
Grossmont - 9/20/08
PLAYER OF THE GAME: KENSLOW SMITH (Helix HS) The 5’6 175 lbs RB rushed for 174 yards on 38 carries and one TD this past week to carry the JAGS to victory over cross town rival Grossmont College. Smith, a physical runner with great quickness used his vision and cutting ability to read the Zone Dive play we ran for most of the day. An academic qualifier out of High School, SMITH was our 2007 MVP and is a team captain.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE GAME: DAVID FERRIS (Bonita Vista HS). The 6’2 250 lbs. Middle LB who also will walk to OLB had a monster game. He had 3 solo tackles, 4 tackles for loss, 2 fumbles forced and intercepted a pass. A two year starter for the JAGS, DAVID took his game to another level in week 3.
SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE GAME: RAY SORIA (St. Augustine HS). Our starting OLB set the tempo for the game on special teams. His ability to run and aggressive attitude was a difference maker as the JAGS dominated special teams play. RAY is on the kickoff coverage, punt team and punt return team. He has also played on the Kick Off Return team. His speed on these units have set him apart. RAY forced a fumble, recovered a fumble, had 4 solo tackles as well as two assisted tackles in the kicking game.
BIG STICK: CHRIS SIDDENS (Otay Ranch HS). For the second week in a row SIDDENS takes home the BIG STICK of the game. With the game on the line and Grossmont attempting to put together a game winning drive, SIDDENS delivered a fantastic hit on a Griffin Wr over the middle closing out the door on their hopes. For the game, CHRIS had 8 solo tackles and two assists as well as two passes defended. CHRIS and his fellow DB’S shut out Grossmont’s All American TE on the night, ZERO catches.
