Players like Captain Elizabeth Gonzalez do not come around often. Showing up on the Jaguar scene last year in her freshmen season, Ely quickly made it clear to the coaching staff that she was a player who strives higher, works harder, and competes till the very end. Committing countless hours of practice and mental preparation, Gonzalez has become a statistical leader for the team in both blocks and hitting percentage. Ely has already superseded her previous season kill total from 2011, and has increased her hitting percentage to .352% from last year’s remarkable .302%.

Gonzalez has certainly mastered her leadership role on the Jaguar volleyball team and has become one of the team’s strongest assets. Her leadership and talent have grown this year’s team exponentially and has risen the program to new heights.

Ely’s tremendous drive to reach higher levels in the sport will continue to make us proud as she pursues to play on after she leaves the Jaguar Den. Once a jaguar…always a jaguar.
