Women's Basketball Receives Athlete of the Week - 2nd Week in a Row!

Imperial Valley College softball player Megan Lerno and Southwestern basketball player Alexis Harris are the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference Women’s Athlete of the Week for the week that ended on Sunday.

Lerno, a freshman pitcher and outfielder from Southwest High School in El Centro and a transfer from Arizona Western College, is batting .400 and has a shutout win under her belt after the Arabs began their season by splitting four games in the BOG Tournament hosted by College of the Desert. Lerno had multiple-hit games against Pasadena City College and Barstow. She went 2-for-3 with a double and two walks in an 18-0 victory over the Lancers and also was 2-for-3 in a 5-0 win vs. the Vikings. Lerno pitched five innings of two-hit shutout ball in the Barstow win, striking out 12 and walking 0.

Harris, a 5-foot-9 freshman guard from San Diego High School, scored 15 points in a 59-54 win over Grossmont and had 18 points and five rebounds as the Jaguars defeated San Diego Mesa 69-27.


Honorable mention went to to basketball players Savannah Skelton (Grossmont), Angelina Hix (MiraCosta), Taylor Mills (San Diego Mesa) and Maria Torres (San Diego City College).
Skelton, a 5-foot-10 freshman forward from Monterey High School, scored 12 points and grabbed eight rebounds as the Griffs handed Palomar its first conference loss 59-55.

Hix, a 5-10 sophomore point guard from Milwaukee High School in Milwaukee, OR, had 12 points, 10 rebounds, six assists and six steals in a 64-36 win vs. Imperial Valley. She contributed 10 points, 10 rebounds and three assists in a 65-59 loss to Mesa.

Mills, a 5-7 sophomore guard from Oregon City (OR) High School and a transfer from Umpqua Community College in Roseburg, OR, had 23 points and seven assists as Mesa defeated MiraCosta.

Torres, a 5-10 freshman guard from Belmont High School in Los Angeles, led City College over Imperial Valley 76-53 with 27 points and 13 rebounds.
