Grossmont College water polo player Daniel Straub has been named Pacific Coast Athletic Conference Men’s Athlete of the Week for the week that ended on Sunday.
Straub totaled 20 goals, four assists and seven steals during the week.

he sophomore utility player from Patrick Henry High School began his run with six goals and an assist in a 17-9 win over San Diego Mesa. He came back with three goals and a steal in a 22-9 loss to state No. 1-ranked and unbeaten (20-0) Golden West in the Golden West Tournament. He had two goals, two assists and three steals in a 16-9 loss to No. 8-ranked Los Angeles Valley in his second tournament game. He led the Griffins to an 11-6 victory over No. 7-ranked Cuesta with four goals, an assist and three steals. And he finished the tournament and the week with five goals in a 15-12 loss to No. 5-ranked Riverside City College.
Honorable mention for the week went to Palomar wrestler Michael Joseph, Southwestern soccer player Sergio Duck and Palomar football player Ryan Lamb.
Joseph, a sophomore 165-pounder from Patrick Henry High, won by pin to help the state No. 1-ranked Comets to a 24-16 Southwest Conference victory over Rio Hondo. He then went 3-0 as Palomar reached the finals of the Southern California Duals before losing to Mt. SAC.
Duck, a freshman goalkeeper from Coronado High School who has played a major role in the Jaguars’first-place run in soccer, recorded three saves as Southwestern handed Palomar its first conference loss 5-2. He spent 65 shutout minutes in goal, picking up two more saves, as the Jags and San Diego City battled to a 2-2 tie.
Lamb, a 6-foot-4, 215-pound freshman quarterback from Oceanside High School, connected on 25 of 39 passes for 355 yards as the Comets dropped a wild 33-32 Southern Conference decision at Fullerton in a game that was decided by a disputed blocked extra point and return for two points by the Hornets. Lamb passed for two touchdowns to tight end Ryan Ena and also scored a TD himself on a quarterback sneak.
