Seeing the World. Making a Difference
Southwestern College GIS&T

Welcome to the Southwestern College (SWC) Geographic Information Science and Technology (GIS&T) Program. Either directly or indirectly, almost every human activity has some kind of location-based or “geospatial” component. Most, if not all of us, are in contact with geospatial technologies on a daily basis (for example, Global Positioning Systems [GPS], vehicle navigation technology, Google Earth, and more).

Geospatial technology is so prevalent that not only has it become a $30 billion a year industry but it is also listed as one of the top three high-technology, high-growth industries in the country (nanotechnology and biotechnology being the other two).

Given the capacity of GIS&T to help in answering many types of questions across a variety of disciplines, it is not surprising that geospatial technologies has become a powerful tool within research, business, analysis, and education. Ultimately, GIS&T aids analysts, educators, and professionals across all  spatial disciplines to help better understand us and our world.
