Family Resource Center

The Southwestern College Family Resource Center (FRC) is located within the campus of the Higher Education Center in National City . The FRC opened its doors in October of 2004 and was established under a Hispanic-Serving Institutions Assisting Communities (HSIAC) grant awarded by the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). The mission of the Family Resource Center is to link Southwestern College with the local community by providing access to critical health and social services. As poverty, unemployment and family distress are prevailing conditions in National City, the FRC strives to serve the particular needs of this population.

All of the services of the Family Resource Center are FREE! The FRC sponsors workshops on educational opportunities, career development, health, housing and other family issues.

As a member of the National City Collaborative and other community associations, the Family Resource Center also partners with over 100 community, education and government agencies to provide social services as well as access to valuable resources on issues from legal advice and immigration counseling to domestic violence and health insurance.

The services of the FRC are open to both students and non-students. There are no conditions of residency status or background to access services, everyone is welcome! For more details on the FRC services, please see the Family Resource Center brochure.

The Family Resource Center facility includes a Child Care Center. Child care that is centered on an educational curriculum is provided for preschool-aged children of parents while they are attending the Family Resource Center workshops and services.
