SOC 110 CONTEMPORARY SOCIAL PROBLEMS 3 Units [Recommended Preparation: SOC 101 or equivalent; RDG 158 or the equivalent skill level as determined by the Southwestern College Reading Assessment or equivalent.] Examines various contemporary social problems from multiple perspectives with an emphasis on their causes and possible solutions. Covers topics such as substance abuse, crime, poverty, racism, sexism, ageism, unemployment, education, healthcare, terrorism, and environmental destruction. [D; CSU; UC] [EFFECTIVE FALL 2014: DESCRIPTION. Examines contemporary social problems, with emphasis on overarching causes and consequences. Includes topics such as crime, poverty, inequality, government, politics, the family, education, the environment, and warfare.
