COMPUTER ASSISTED DRAFTING & ANIMATION CLASSES OFFERED AT SOUTHWESTERN COLLEGE

CAD 220: Introduction to CAD/CAM Systems (Computer Assisted Design
This class introduces the student to the field of Computer Assisted Design and Drafting. This class provides the student with an overview of how CAD is used in a variety of disciplines and its roll in engineering disciplines and product production. Uses AutoCAD 2007(3 units)

CAD 222: CAD Mechanical Design I (3-Dimensional Modeling)
This class is designed as a continuation of CAD 220. Emphasis is on more advanced CAD functions with an emphasis on 3-dimensional modeling using AutoCAD and Solidworks software. Uses AutoCAD 2007 and Solidworks 2005(3 units)

CAD 223: CAD Detailing and Dimensioning
This class focuses on advanced dimensioning application, tolerancing and view development for mechanical parts and assemblies.
Class content: View development, mechanical dimensioning styles, hole and thread recognition and callout and ANSI Y14.5 standard. (3 units)

CAD 224: CAD Mechanical Design II
This class provides the student an opportunity to apply skills developed in previous CAD courses. Focus will be on development of mechanical parts and assemblies in preparation for integration with Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAM)-(3 units)

CAD 228: CAD Advanced Surface Design (Uses Pro-Engineer—wildfire)
The title “Advanced Surface Design” does not truly represent the class content. This class focuses on mechanical design/intent and design strategies used in the development of 3d-dimensional solid models using Pro-engineer software. Uses Wildfire (3 units)

CAD 240: CAM Numerical Control I (Uses MasterCAM 9)
This class provides the student an opportunity to develop physical models from CAD drawings using NC (numerical control) machinery. Student uses MasterCAM (3 units)

CAD 272: Solid Modeling II (Uses Pro-Engineer—wildfire)
This class is a continuation of CAD 228. The class provides students the opportunity to further explore solid modeling using Pro-Engineer. (3 units)

CAD 299 Independent Study
This class provides the student an opportunity to study or research an area of CAD or Animation that is of specific interest.—(3 units)

COMPUTER ANIMATION CLASSES

CAD 276: Technical Computer Imaging and Animation I (3D-Studio MAX R8)
This class introduces the student to the field of computer imaging and animation using 3D-Studio MAX R8. Students will create, animate, and apply textures and audio to virtual 3-dimensional models. (3 units)

CAD 277: Technical Computer Imaging and Animation II (3D-Studio MAX R8)
This class is a continuation of CAD 276. Class further explores character animation and advanced MAX commands. Class contents includes: Character Studio application, Bones, reactor and blue-screen. (3 units)

CAD 278 Technical Computer Imaging and Animation III (3D-Studio MAX R8)
This class provides the student an opportunity to work individually or with a team in the development of animated short films and demo CD’s. (3 units)
