Aside from the competitive salary scale and excellent working environment, Southwestern College offers a generous 125C Flexible Benefit Plan for health insurance.

All employment groups currently receive $5,200 per person per calendar year (over and above their salary) to use toward the purchase of insurance. This benefit amount is prorated based on date of hire and termination. If you are hired as a Classified, Confidential, Supervisor or an Administrator staff and do not use your entire allowance, the remaining amount will be forfeited. If you are hired as an Academic and do not use your entire allowance, the unused portion is given to you in cash and is subject to withholding. Should you exceed your entitlement, you may pay the difference from your earnings on a pre-tax or after tax basis.

Life and dental insurance are mandatory and all others are optional. Among the optional coverages, Southwestern College offers two HMO medical plans; a vision plan; cancer care; and employee supplemental life. Some of the coverages are available to Domestic Partners within the limitations of the IRS and the insurance carriers. Domestic Partner affidavits are required for enrollment and are available through Payroll Services. Other types of insurance including disability, long term care and dependent life are available on an after tax payroll deduction basis only, and are not included in the 125C plan structure.

Tax sheltered retirement plans under IRC code 403(b) and 457 are also available by tax deferred payroll deductions.

Flexible Benefit Medical and Dependent Care accounts are available during the open enrollment following your one year anniversary, on a pre-tax basis with limits of $5,000 each, per calendar year.
