Browser Specifications

To log in and access Southwestern College WebAdvisor services, you must enter your User Name and password

You may get the message "Page cannot be displayed." This message will appear for the following reasons:

  • Most often, your browser is not configured for SSL (Secure Socket Layer) 3.0, or at the level of encryption required.
    • To see if this is the case (Internet Explorer 5.x , 6 or 7):
      1. Click "Help" in the menu bar, then "About Internet Explorer." There will be a line indicating the Cipher (encryption) Strength. If it is less than 128-bit, you will need to upgrade your browser to one that supports 128-bit encryption.
      2. Ensure your browser can communicate using SSL 3.0. For Internet Explorer, click "Tools" in the menu bar, then "Internet Options." Select the last tab, "Advanced" for a comprehensive list of options. Scroll down to the end of the list; the Security Options are listed. The boxes for SSL 2.0 and 3.0 should be checked.
    • To see if this is the case (Mozilla, Firefox )
      1. Click "Tools" in the menu bar. Select "Options" from the dropdown menu. Click on the "Advanced " Tab In the right-hand pane, there should be check boxes for SSL. Ensure SSL 2.0 and 3.0 are checked.

Which browsers and computers/platforms can I use with WebAdvisor?

  • WebAdvisor will operate effectively with the Microsoft Internet Explorer browser on PCs. For best results, the browser should be Release 5.x level or later.
  • Mac computers: the OS needs to be OS-X or above and FireFox for the browser. Mac OS 9.X and earlier are not recommended. Internet Explorer for Macs are not recommended.
