Southwestern College Tutoring Program
Receives International Certification

CHULA VISTA, CA -- Southwestern College today announced that tutors in its Learning Assistance Service Program (LASP) can receive an International Tutor Program Certification, demonstrating higher level achievement in facilitating learning at all levels.

Every semester, more than 4,800 Southwestern College students take advantage of peer tutoring. Students can receive support in the College’s Academic Success Center, Interdisciplinary Tutoring Centers and other locations on the main campus and Higher Education Centers. Tutorial services include:

  • free individual and small group tutoring for students who need assistance;
  • writing, reading, study skills and college success workshops;
  • online materials for students to help improve their study strategies; and
  • an online study skills assessment.

The College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA) oversees tutor training programs in post-secondary educational institutions. The LASP offers three levels of tutor training which consist of classroom and online instruction.
