Southwestern College Acts to Sever Construction Contracts
At its meeting Wednesday, January 25, 2012, the Governing Board of the Southwestern Community College District (SWCCD) directed its staff and legal counsel to take steps to sever the College’s contractual agreements with Seville Construction Services and BCA Architecture Inc., reserving all legal rights of the College.
“Tonight’s action is consistent with the board’s commitment to proactively address past practices while maintaining Southwestern’s core mission of providing excellent education and maintaining the public trust,” said Board President Norma Hernandez.
The board also directed staff to initiate a Request for Proposal process to procure replacement program management and architectural services.
”The Governing Board is acting now to insure the continued progress of work undertaken with Proposition R funds” said Superintendent/President Dr. Melinda Nish. “It’s important for the public to understand that work is continuing during this process.”
The board also directed legal counsel and staff to continue full cooperation with the District Attorney’s investigation and to continue to evaluate the College’s legal options in this matter.
